Language learning is a journey of self-growth. It provides us the opportunity to expand ourselves and gain new experiences. But, just like any other journey, it is important to have the right means to reach our destination.

Therefore, while we learning a new language it is important that we access to right resources for enhancing our knowledge. And, if we can find resources that are not only credible but also free of charge, that is the cherry on top.

Sounds great doesn't it? That is what I will be sharing in this article today. These are the resources that have helped me learn and improve my Italian and you can also access these resources free of cost. All you need is a device and an internet connection.

So let's get into it —

1. Edx

Edx is an online course provider created by Harvard and MIT. It has about 3,500 courses with about 40 million users. It provides Italian courses for all levels for absolutely free.

Pros

  1. The course is available at three levels — beginner, intermediate and advanced.
  2. Well-structures lessons.
  3. Comprehensive notes are available for every chapter.
  4. Comprehensive video lessons.
  5. Multiple exercises for practice.

Cons

  1. Once you are enrolled, you can access the course for only a certain number of weeks. (Basically, you have to complete the course within a certain time frame.)

2. Coffee Break Italian

A language learning podcast that helps you learn Italian from scratch in their 15-min lessons. There are about six seasons in the series ranging from beginner to advanced level. An efficient way to learn Italian in your busy life.

  1. Teaches Italian through interesting conversations.
  2. Lessons are not about the language but also the Italian culture.
  3. Efficient solution for passive learning.

Cons

  1. It can be hard to see progress without active learning.

3. Italianpod101

An optimum website to access free PDFs and worksheets for learning Italian. You can also access their YouTube channel for quick and easy lessons.

Pros

  1. Free access to comprehensive notes.
  2. Free practice material.
  3. YouTube channel for speeding up learning.

Cons

  1. The well-structured course is not available for free.

4. Duolingo

I think we are most familiar with this application. It has helped many of us start off on the journey of learning a new language. While it losing its popularity among language learners, it certainly has its upsides.

Pros

  1. Makes language learning fun.
  2. You can practice writing, listening, and speaking all in one place.

Cons

  1. Lack of structured learning.
  2. You cannot really become fluent by relying only on the app.

4. YouTube

The most popular video streaming website has thousands of free lessons on different subjects, including languages. We cannot only access language lessons but also enhance our language skills by watching videos in our target language.

Pros

  1. An entertaining way of learning a language.
  2. Helps in improving conversational skills.
  3. Enhances vocabulary.

Cons

  1. Requires a lot of time and dedication.

Language learning requires a lot of effort and consistency but with the right resources, we can speed up the process. So, let's use these free resources to improve our Italian.
